Dr Karkhanis grew up in Mumbai, India. He completed medical school at K J Somaiya Medical College in Mumbai, under the auspices of Mumbai University. He then found the opportunity to train for a year in UK’s National Health Service as a house officer in Colorectal surgery and urology. Moving to the US, subsequently, he completed his Internal Medicine training at York hospital, PA, and his residency from Georgetown University Hospital/VA Medical Center in DC. After completing his fellowship in 2009, he joined Shah Associates in Southern MD (which is now Medstar Shah Medical Group). He finds immense gratification in serving the populations of St Mary’s, Prince Frederick and St Charles counties, where rheumatologists are in short supply. He is passionate about providing access to rheumatology care to the underserved.

In his spare time, Dr Karkhanis enjoys spending time with his two young children, following the sport of cricket from all around the world, attempting to cook from a variety of cuisines, riding his motorcycle in the picturesque regions of MD/VA countryside, and traveling with his wife.
